Historically, Older Person and Disability Grants have enjoyed a nominal increase every October. In the past, this amounted to little more than R10. But every Rand counts when you’re one of the four-million pensioners living near the bread line.
OCTOBER 2025 SASSA OLD-AGE GRANTS
With less than a week to go to October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants, the South African Social Security Agency has confirmed increases to the next payment. On previous occasions, these were declared well in advance of the October disbursement. Nevertheless, the good news is over 75s will now be getting R2 340, and those aged between 60-74, R2 320. A nominal R10 increase like other years.
As such, we are surprised to see increases to October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants, when you consider SASSA did deliver higher-than-expected above-inflation increases back in April 2025. If you’ll recall, this occurred amid Finance Minister Godongwana’s repeated postponed budget speeches.
WHAT’S THE LATEST AT SASSA?
Nevertheless, the agency has been hard at work getting its house in order in 2025. Clearly, the latest October 2025 increase came with conditions. One, that SASSA must take action internally against fraud and corruption.
Second, that it must tighten its belt and stop social grant payments to underserving beneficiaries. Principal among which are those without valid identification documents. And any client flirting with the income and asset qualification limits.
STRICTER TESTS FOR OCTOBER 2025 SASSA OLD-AGE GRANTS
As such, the agency’s review policies have changed. Previously, you had three months to prepare your finances before a review. Now, you receive a text message and your next grant is withheld until you report to a SASSA office to clarify your income.
Similarly, mandatory biometric enrolment (digital facial-recognition photo and fingerprints) started this month (September 2025). Therefore, all new applicants for October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants must supply biometrics. Likewise, any client under review or changing their payment method must do the same.
HOW TO APPLY FOR OCTOBER 2025 SASSA OLD-AGE GRANTS
If you’re thinking of applying, here’s what you need to qualify for October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants:
- Only residents over 60s may qualify.
- You must have an official RSA identity document (ID).
- A valid three months’ statement certified by your bank.
- Be able to show all documents proving your marital status.
- Supply a proof of residence (a utility bill with your name on it not older than three months).
- Show all proof of income and/or financial dividends.
- Supply all information regarding assets/valuation of property.
- A declaration of any private pension in your name.

WHAT IF YOU’RE PLACED UNDER REVIEW?
If your October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants are withheld because of a review. Here’s what you need to bring to a SASSA office as soon as possible:
- A recent bank statement/valid work payslip.
- Copy of your ID.
- Proof of residence (no older than three months).
If you’re found to be over either prescribed income limit, you will have to pay back the money you received. Due to its improved tracking systems, SASSA is able to identify the exact month you overstepped the limit. In turn, SASSA offers different repayment systems:
- A lump sum repayment in full.
- Budget’ repayment over a number of months (accruing interest).
- Or a debit order that comes off your bank account each month.
LAST PAYMENT DATES FOR 2025
Unfortunately, October 2025 SASSA Old-Age Grants haven’t increased, but you can at least budget for the last remaining months of the year:
- OCTOBER – Thursday 2 October 2025 (with the R10 increase)
- NOVEMBER – Tuesday 4 November 2025
- DECEMBER – Tuesday 2 December 2025
