Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro could be a candidate to replace Nasreddine Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs.
This comes after reports emerged on Wednesday afternoon claiming that the Tunisian tactician has left his position as Amakhosi head coach. The 60-year-old is currently in his second season with Chiefs, having guided them to Nedbank Cup success in the 2024/25 season.
According to iDiski Times, Nabi may have left the club due to the recent accident involving his wife, which saw him miss the start of the season after being granted compassionate leave.
Nasreddine Nabi leaving Chiefs abruptly?
The Tunisian coach missed the club’s first three league matches to attend to his wife, and in his absence, his assistant Khalil Ben Youssef guided the team to three successive league victories.
Nabi’s return has brought mixed results, bagging just four points from three matches. With the club looking to improve this season, a decision might have been taken before the team’s CAF Confederation Cup match on Saturday.
Who will replace Nabi?
If Nasreddine Nabi is indeed leaving Kaizer Chiefs, the perfect candidate is Jose Riveiro. The Spaniard spent three seasons with Orlando Pirates where he won five of the six finals he reached.
Riveiro is available currently after being sacked by Al Ahly a few weeks ago. He might be an option if Chiefs are looking for a coach who understands South African football.
Nasreddine Nabi joined Kaizer Chiefs in July 2024 and won one trophy with the club. Last season, he finished ninth, which meant Amakhosi missed out on the top 8 finish for the second successive season.
