Kaizer Chiefs admit defeat in Fawaaz Basadien chase?

Kaizer Chiefs are looking to bolster their side with some major reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Chiefs will be looking to better their fortunes from the previous campaign where they missed out on the top eight.

Chiefs set for more games and travel

They did, however, find some solace in claiming their first trophy in 10 years, after winning the Nedbank Cup. They did so after beating arch-rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1. That was not just a trophy in the bag but also clinching qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. That will mean more games and more traveling, subsequently calling for more quality players in the squad for Chiefs.

So far, it is thought that they have already signed five players going into their pre-season camp in the Netherlands. One of those players being a left-back from rivals Pirates in Paseka Mako. The diminutive’s release and subsequent signing for Chiefs came as a shock to many. For others, it signalled that they were no longer going for their main target Fawaaz Basadien.

Have they given up on Basadien pursuit?

Now according to Soccer-Laduma sources, there may be an element of truth to Chiefs moving away from Basadien. And that has been the reason for them looking at the likes of Mako and Aphiwe Baliti

“Yes, there are youngsters who have been promoted to the senior team and will be traveling with the team to the Netherlands but Aphiwe (Baliti) has more experience than them in the top flight and that’s why they are considering him as it is believed they (Chiefs) can’t get Fawaaz Basadien or Mohamed Hussein at the moment,” said a source to the same publication
