Kaizer Chiefs: Benni McCarthy to take over from Nabi?

The coveted Kaizer Chiefs hot seat has become available following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi.

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly cut ties with Nasreddine Nabi.

Furthermore, they did not name Nabi in the travelling squad for the CAF squad. So, let’s take a look at the chances of Benni McCarthy being approached by Amakhosi.

CHIEFS IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW HEAD COACH

Chiefs are in the market for a new coach following their decision to part ways with Nabi.

“It’s understood the issue are around his CAF qualifications, meaning he would not be able to sit on the bench for any of their interclub competition fixtures this season – especially if they progress further,” the report on the SABC reported.

Big names such as Pitso Mosimane and Jose Riveiro have been linked with the Amakhosi job. So, what are the chances of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates legend, Benni McCarthy being approached?

Ultimately, it is unlikely but not impossible. McCarthy is currently head coach of Kenya. So, he is already contracted and he has only been with them a couple of months.

Meaning, McCarthy has just started to settle in life in Kenya. However, anything is possible. After all, Chiefs are a massive club rich in history and McCarthy is from South Africa.

PITSO MOSIMANE AND JOSE RIVEIRO CAN DO THE JOB

Chiefs want to return to their glory days.

They won their first trophy in a decade when they won the Nedbank Cup. However, Amakhosi fans want more – they want to win the Betway Premiership and to become competitive in Africa.

Mosimane and Riveiro are strong options for Amakhosi given their experience, success and availability.

Both coaches have done very well on the continental stage in Africa. Furthermore, both coaches are available right now.

Mosimane won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016, and he won two CAF Champions Leagues with Al Ahly. Meanwhile, Riveiro led Pirates to five/six domestic titles and took a young side to the CAF Champions League semi-finals last season.

Both men possess the aptitude to take charge of Chiefs. So, it will come down to what coach Amakhosi management wants and what they are willing to offer.
