Kaizer Chiefs recently unveiled ex-Orlando Pirates stars Thabiso Monyane and Paseko Mako.
Kaizer Chiefs officially announced FIVE new player signings.
Initially, Nkanyisa Shinga, Flavio Silva and Ethan Chislett were announced. Thereafter, in one of the worst-kept secrets in the PSL, it was confirmed that Monyane and Mako joined Chiefs from Pirates. Interestingly, one of these former Bucs stars will wear a jersey number that has been worn by Amakhosi legends.
EX-PIRATES STARS SIGN FOR CHIEFS, JERSEY NUMBERS GIVEN
Chiefs’ latest signing, Mako has been allocated the #29 jersey for the 2025/26 PSL season.
“Player Announcements! We are pleased to announce the signing of left-wingback Paseka Mako, previously with Orlando Pirates. He will don jersey #29. Welcome to the Family!,” Chiefs stated.
So, Mako will be utilized as a left-wingback going forward. However, it is Thabiso Monyane who will wear a jersey number that has been worn by a Chiefs legend.
COVETED JERSEY NUMBER WORN BY AMAKHOSI LEGENDS
Monyane will wear the coveted #2 jersey.
“Player Announcements! We are pleased to announce the signing of right-back Thabiso Monyane, previously with Orlando Pirates! He will don jersey #2. Welcome to the Family!,” Chiefs confirmed in an official announcement.
Therefore, he will play in the same number that the legendary Jimmy Tau did. Talk about pressure. As if breaking the unwritten rule of joining Chiefs from Pirates wasn’t enough. He now has the added pressure of wearing the same jersey number as an Amakhosi legend.
Ironically, Tau represented Chiefs and Pirates too.
Furthermore, it has recently been worn by Edmilson Dove and PSL veteran S’fiso Hlanti as well.
Additionally, another Amakhosi legend, Siboniso Gaxa.
CHIEFS SQUAD EVOLVING
Chiefs have a whole team worth of new players – these 11 new players have reportedly joined the first team. This includes TWO European-based signings, FIVE promotions and FOUR players from PSL rivals.
Meanwhile, they are expected to sign these players from Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.
In contrast, as mentioned, FIVE Amakhosi player departures have been confirmed. Whilst, a total of FIVE more Chiefs players are heading out of Naturena.
DO YOU THINK MONYANE CAN FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF AMAKHOSI LEGENDS JIMMY TAU AND SIBONISO GAXA AT CHIEFS?
