Kaizer Chiefs news: Chiefs plan coaching boost, eye ex-player return

Kaizer Chiefs have started making big moves ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season. The club is reportedly close to finalizing the return of former head coach Dillon Sheppard to their senior technical staff. This plan would see Sheppard take on a hybrid coaching role, splitting his time between the first team and the Development and Discovery Centre (DDC).

An insider revealed, “Sheppard has always been a passionate part of Chiefs. His return will bring stability and fresh ideas both on the training ground and at the academy.” The arrangement would allow Sheppard to support local players — both young and experienced — while also continuing his work with the DDC, especially since current coach Vela Khumalo will be involved with the Under-17 national team preparing for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in September. This dual role could be critical in shaping Chiefs’ future talent pipeline.

Ex-player Lesako eyed for return

In addition to the coaching changes, Chiefs have also shown interest in bringing back midfielder Lebohang Lesako. “Scouts and recruiters have been following his progress closely. They know him well, and are happy with his growth both as a player and as a person,” the insider added. Lesako’s potential return to Naturena is seen as a move to add experience and creativity to the squad, bolstering depth in midfield.

Chiefs have already signed six new players this transfer window, but with at least five more players heading out, the club is clearly intent on reshaping the squad. These off-field moves could prove crucial as the team looks to challenge strongly next season.
