Kaizer Chiefs have officially parted ways with midfielder Yusuf Maart, marking the end of a chapter that many supporters hoped would last longer. Maart’s exit comes amid a wave of transfer activity at Naturena and raises questions about the club’s midfield structure ahead of the new season.
Although the exact destination of Maart hasn’t been revealed yet, sources close to the club confirmed he’s no longer part of Nasreddine Nabi’s plans. Chiefs recently confirmed multiple arrivals and are expected to add more players before the transfer window closes.
One of the names still in talks with the club is Mihlali Mayambela. The Bafana Bafana star currently plays in Cyprus for Aris Limassol and has confirmed discussions with Kaizer Motaung Jr. “There was a conversation,” Mayambela said. “You can see the club is moving in a different direction.”
Could Mayambela replace Maart?
Mayambela is a left-footed attacker and doesn’t directly replace Maart, who played in central midfield, but his signing would inject creativity and pace. Chiefs need to rebuild after a dismal 2024/25 campaign, and Mayambela could be part of that plan.
While the Mayambela talks continue, Kaizer Chiefs are also monitoring other midfielders to fill the Maart-sized gap. His departure may have been mutual, but it certainly leaves a hole.
Chiefs fans have grown used to seeing Maart’s name on the teamsheet, and losing his ball control and passing range will be a big adjustment. The club’s recruitment strategy will now be tested more than ever.
Maart’s exit signals change. Whether it’s for the better remains to be seen.
Will Kaizer Chiefs miss Maart?
