Kaizer Chiefs continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, and one player’s future looks increasingly bleak.
While Amakhosi are hard at work in the Netherlands preparing for the upcoming campaign, they are simultaneously working to offload 22-year-old forward Donay Jansen. Chiefs had loaned Jansen to SuperSport United last season, but he failed to secure regular game time or stake a claim for a starting spot.
“Jansen is unlikely to form part of the first team at Naturena in the coming season,” a source said.
Reinforcing the club’s decision to find him a new home. Chiefs are actively pursuing a move that will provide Jansen with more playing opportunities, and a drop to the Motsepe Foundation Championship seems most likely.
Championship move on the cards
Given the influx of new signings at Naturena, Jansen finds himself pushed further down the pecking order. Chiefs have yet to confirm whether he will leave on another loan deal or exit on a permanent basis. But his prospects of reclaiming a place in the senior squad appear slim.
The track record doesn’t favour him either. Several Chiefs players failed to make an impact upon returning from loan spells. Jansen risks becoming the latest in that long list.
Long-term deal may not secure future
Before his move to SuperSport, Jansen signed a contract with Chiefs that runs until June 2027. Despite the long-term agreement, his future at Naturena remains uncertain.
The club has already begun clearing out players ahead of Nabi’s new era, releasing Dove, Chivaviro, Mdantsane and Radebe. More departures are expected before the close of the transfer window, and Jansen could well be next in line.
Defining window for Jansen and Chiefs
As the Soweto giants continue their revamp, players like Jansen must seek opportunities elsewhere to keep their careers on track. Whether loaned out or sold permanently, his next move could determine if he stays relevant in top-flight South African football.
Was Jansen given a fair chance at Kaizer Chiefs?
