Kaizer Chiefs have missed out on long-linked target Aphiwe Baliti, as the 23-year-old has officially returned to Siwelele FC, recently renamed from SuperSport United, despite persistent speculation suggesting a move to Naturena.
For weeks, multiple sources had linked Baliti with a switch to Amakhosi, especially ahead of the current transfer window. However, Siwelele have welcomed the left-back back into their setup, with the club confirming his involvement in pre-season training on Monday morning. Baliti’s appearance at training signals a firm commitment to his current club for the 2025/2026 Premiership season.
Siwelele restructure as Baliti commits
Siwelele FC, now under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Andre Arendse, look to rebuild with a clear vision, and Baliti appears to be part of that plan.
The club’s new technical setup aligns with Baliti’s return, raising questions about why the highly-rated fullback opted against joining Kaizer Chiefs.
Fierce competition for left-back spot at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have not stood still in the transfer market, especially in the left-back department. The club bolstered that position by signing Nkanyiso Shinga and Paseka Mako, joining existing options Happy Mashiane and Bradley Cross.
With such depth, competition at left-back has intensified significantly at Naturena.
As Jessica Motaung, the club’s Marketing & Commercial Director, previously stated: “We are not done in the transfer market. Expect more signings before the window closes.” That promise seems to have sparked movement. Even if Baliti isn’t part of the Amakhosi puzzle for now.
Is Baliti’s Chiefs snub a blessing in disguise?
While Amakhosi fans may feel disappointed, Baliti’s decision could open the door for Shinga and Mako to shine, while also offering Mashiane and Cross a chance to fight for regular game time.
Kaizer Chiefs continue to shape their squad for the upcoming season with purpose and intensity. One target missed, but the mission remains unchanged.
Kaizer Chiefs missing out on Baliti a good thing?
