The biggest news coming from the Kaizer Chiefs camp is the absence of their captain, Yusuf Maart.
The 29-year-old midfielder is set to join newly promoted Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried 1912. Maart did not travel with his Amakhosi teammates to the Netherlands for pre-season training.
The former Sekhukhune United man was instrumental in ending Amakhosi’s trophy drought after scoring the winning goal against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final in May. His heroics earned him praise from many Kaizer Chiefs fans despite receiving criticism in his last two years at Naturena
It appears that Amakhosi have moved on with the signing of Siphesihle Ndlove for a reported fee of around R5 million. The former SuperSport United midfielder could very well be Maart’s replacement.
Kaizer Chiefs linked with Nigerian striker
In recent weeks, Amakhosi have been linked with Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro. According to a report from Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have already filled all five of their foreign player slots, preventing them from registering Ighodaro until his documentation is finalised.
“Well, it’s believed that the club is still interested in signing Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro but they have to look at the foreign quota first. And for now they have five foreign players on their books. But they are waiting for Ighodaro to obtain his PRP which he has qualified for now and that’s why they can’t sign any foreign players now,” the source told Soccer Laduma.
Which players can Kaizer Chiefs still sign?
So far, the club has signed six players this transfer window, including two former Pirates stars. Another player whom the Glamour Boys might sign from their rivals is Monnapule Saleng. The speedy winger has not played a match for the Buccaneers in seven months and his future in Mayfair remains a mystery.
The Sea Robbers fly to Spain for their pre-season, and everyone will no doubt be looking for Saleng in the squad, including Kaizer Chiefs management.
