With the transfer window closing in the coming days, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is set to trim his squad.
The Tunisian coach has indicated that he would like to release some players before the close of the transfer window on 22 September. Currently Amakhosi have over 30 players after adding 10 new signings during the current transfer
“Yes. It is true that the squad is big. The club is working on options to try to offload the squad, especially to give the possibility to some players that didn’t have the consistency or didn’t have enough time to get more playing [time] into other teams,” Nabi said.
Which players are Kaizer Chiefs likely to get released?
So far, the club have parted ways with Ranga Chivaviro, Njabulo Blom, Edson Castillo, Edmilson Dove, Yusuf Maart, Bongani Sam and Mduduzi Mdantsane.
In defence, Nabi could look to ofload Dillan Solomons at right-back given how Thabiso Monyane has performed. With Aden McCarthy having cemented his place in the starting lineup, Given Msimango’s future at the team doesn’t look too good.
Zitha Kwinika was a forgotten man but when he was given an opportunity towards the end of last season, the Kaizer Chiefs centre-back took it with both hands. He is likely to play as back up alongside Rushwin Dortley.
In terms of midfield and attack, Samkelo Zwane looks likely to depart given his lack of gametime in recent month. Amakhosi have Ethan Chislett, Thabo Cele, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Sibongiseni Mthethwa who can play in the central midfield position.
Ashley Du Preez could be the only forward to make way after Chivaviro. The 28-year-old striker played three times for Kaizer Chiefs this season but failed to score or make an assist.
