Kaizer Chiefs have made 10 new signings in this transfer window in an attempt to reinforce their squad.
But, of course, they could not get all their targets for various reasons, but one must admit that they did their best.
It appears Amakhosi have learnt from their past mistakes of signing big-name players without profiling them.
One of Chiefs‘ biggest downfalls in recent seasons has been signing those big-name players who come at a huge cost only to flop.
Now, they have boxed smarter with Lebohang Maboe instead of Lebogang Phiri.
Here is why…

KAIZER CHIEFS BOX SMART BY SNUBBING LEBO AND SIGNING LEBO
Just last week, Chiefs announced the signing of Maboe in a deal that took many football fans by surprise.
And we now know that this was on the back of Amakhosi going silent on forgotten Bafana Bafana star Phiri.
Phiri has confirmed having talks with Chiefs, and even going to Naturena to negotiate his potential move with the hierarchy.
But after holding out for the move for weeks, Chiefs announced a different Lebo in former Orlando Pirates man’s son Maboe.
With Maboe, Chiefs have found a ‘cheaper option‘ with valuable PSL experience which could help them thrive.
He is a ‘cheaper option‘ in the sense that Maboe’s salary would be expected to be lower than that of Phiri who played abroad for years.
Furthermore, Maboe knows the Chiefs environment having been there as a teenager until he left in 2015 aged 20.
Now, with Phiri, Chiefs would have had to give him time to adapt to local football before possibly getting the best out of him, and he would be earning higher.
After all, these are two attacking midfielders who are at the same age – Maboe (30) and Phiri (30).
So, it’s a win for Chiefs provided Maboe delivers on his promise to help the club win trophies by contributing positively.
