South Africa’s Kgothatso Montjane was victorious over China’s Zying Wang 6-2, 6-4 in a one hour and 18 minute battle on Court 11 at the French Open.
After the match, Montjane was positive about her performance.
“I came out really focused. The first set was very impressive.
“I was more intentional.”
‘Kept battling’
The second set was more of a struggle for Montjane.
“I feel like the second I started well. I kept battling with myself.
“I was a little bit tentative.”
Some positive self-talk came in handy.
“I had to remind myself that if I was going to win, I had to really take it to her.”
The last game of the match went back and forth. Initially Montjane was 15-40 on her serve.
“I’m so glad that I was able to keep my composure in that last game.
“I take out only the positives here.”
Kgothatso Montjane spoke about being more in the groove and having some momentum.
“I was swinging much better today. I’m happy with that.
“I definitely have to keep up this momentum and take it forward.”
Montjane concluded by expressing her gratitude for being able to be in France.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be here.”
