King Charles and Queen Camilla will make an important trip to Vatican City next month, their first visit since Pope Leo XIV’s election earlier this year.
The two-day October trip will mark their only overseas engagement this autumn. It will carry deep personal meaning after the death of Pope Francis in April.
KING CHARLES’ LAST VATICAN VISIT
The couple last visited the Vatican in April 2025, where they met Pope Francis privately on their 20th wedding anniversary.
Days later, the pontiff passed away aged 88, according to GB News.
Despite his illness, Pope Francis blessed their marriage in what many considered a significant gesture. “That moment carried tremendous weight for King Charles and Queen,” a palace insider said.
THE NEW POPE
Pope Leo XIV, whose birth name is Robert Prevost, became the first American pontiff after his election in May.
Since then, he has sought to strengthen ties with global leaders.
THE DUCHESS OF KENT’S PASSING
He offered condolences to the Royal Family just last week following the death of the Duchess of Kent. In his words: “I send heartfelt condolences, together with the assurance of my prayerful closeness.”
King Charles, who continues regular cancer treatment, has shown resilience in maintaining official duties.
