Kirsty Gallacher shares hospital pic ahead of radiotherapy for ear tumour

KIRSTY Gallacher has shared a hospital snap ahead of her radiotherapy treatment.

The Scots presenter, 49, was forced to step away from her role as a GB News anchor in August 2024 to recover from an ongoing health issue.

She was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, a benign tumour on the nerve connecting the ear to the brain, in the summer of 2021.

And now Kirsty will soon be heading into the hospital for radiotherapy to treat her tumour.

Taking to Instagram to share some snaps from her hospital appointment to prepare for treatment, Kirsty opened up about when she will begin radiotherapy.

Sharing a photo of her arm with an IV drip in it, she penned: “And so the radiotherapy prep starts, just under a month to go!”

She then shared a photo of a yellow mask, and penned: “My ‘Hannibal lector’ mask… can’t wait.”

According to Cancer Research, before some patients undergo radiotherapy, they might need a mask or mould made.

They state how the masks can also be called shells and they “keep the treatment area of your body still each time you have your radiotherapy”.

“This is so your treatment is as accurate as possible.”This is so your treatment is as accurate as possible,” the site explains.

Four years ago, the mother-of-two shared that she had been diagnosed with a benign ear tumour.

Since then she has spoken about her ongoing tinnitus battle and hearing loss, which has been brought on from her health condition.

Last August she told the Daily Star: “The tumour is a benign acoustic neuroma which they don’t really know how they are caused.

“I am in close contact with my consultant and recently it was great to hear that it hasn’t grown so I can put off treatment.

“Eventually, I may need treatment to shrink it but with these things, you never know, it could shrink itself.

“My hearing is slightly compromised in that ear and it causes low-level tinnitus which can disrupt my sleep but I’ve learnt to live with it and I’m used to it.”

At the time, Edinburgh-born Kirsty opened up on the knock-on effects of her condition.

She wrote online: “The tumour has caused severe tinnitus which makes it very difficult to sleep.

“Sadly, my 3am starts at GB News, compounded by sleep deprivation, are exacerbating symptoms.”

Kirsty said she hoped to return to the breakfast show as soon as possible.

She added: “As I adjust to managing my condition, I will carry on my less disruptive work commitments.”
