KwaZulu-Natal braces for scattered thunderstorms

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) will face a wet Wednesday, 6 August, as a cold front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the province, particularly in central and northern regions.

According to forecaster Odirile Modipa, “We are expecting isolated to scattered thunderstorms in central KZN, extending into the north and moving toward the Free State.”

While Durban is forecast to remain relatively mild, residents inland may experience sudden downpours.

Durban will see a maximum of 20°C, with cooler conditions inland. Coastal towns like Richards Bay and Port Shepstone may stay warmer but remain under threat of intermittent rainfall.

“Thunderstorms may lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas,” Modipa warned.

Travel and Safety Advisory

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously.

“Keep headlights on and reduce speed if visibility worsens,” Modipa advised.

She also noted that the storms could still pose danger, although not classified as severe.
