KZN enjoys warmer Friday as cold front spares the province

KwaZulu-Natal residents woke up to a relatively mild Friday morning. Most parts of the province enjoyed warm conditions, especially along the coast and in the north.

While inland areas like Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle experienced a cooler weather start, the day was expected to warm up quickly. Coastal towns, including Durban and Port St Johns, recorded comfortable morning temperatures at around 14°C, with sunshine expected throughout the day.

Warmth dominates coastal and northern regions

Joel Guy, a SABC meteorologist, noted that KwaZulu-Natal is mostly unaffected by the cold front impacting the western parts of the country.

“Over the southern areas, the weather is not too cold in the eastern parts and also along the coastal regions,” he said.

“KwaZulu-Natal is looking good today, Durban, Port St Johns, and Richards Bay are all starting around 14 degrees.”

By midday, weather temperatures across the province were forecast to rise into the lower to mid-20s, with Richards Bay and areas in the north expected to be the warmest. Inland towns such as Ladysmith and Vryheid would remain slightly cooler but enjoy a sunny day.

Ideal weather for outdoor activities

Unlike the Western Cape, where strong winds and damaging waves are expected, KwaZulu-Natal does not have severe weather warnings. Beachgoers and outdoor enthusiasts expect clear skies, mild breezes, and good conditions throughout Friday.
