KZN Premier says province is ready for upcoming matric exams

The KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thami Ntuli, said that the province is ready for the upcoming matric exams as preparations are underway.

Ntuli, together with Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka, visited the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination papers printing centre in Durban on Tuesday, 7 October 2025.

The duo mentioned how they are working as a unified government to make sure things run smoothly during examinations.

NTULI ENCOURAGES MATRICS TO PREPARE WELL AS DAYS ARE NEARING

Ntuli urged matriculants and schools to make sure that they are well prepared as days for the examinations are getting closer.

“We are encouraging learners and all schools to prepare and be strong now as there are only a few days left. We also wish all learners writing, not the ones in matric only, to write well and succeed in their examinations,” said Ntuli.

He added that they are delighted that Hlomuka had arranged an oversight visit for them to witness the province’s readiness for the exams.

“We are happy that the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal has arranged for us to be part of his visit to see that we are all in a position of confidence,” Ntuli mentioned.

HLOMUKA SAYS THEY ARE WORKING AS AN INTEGRATED GOVERNMENT TO ENSURE MATRIC EXAMS RUN SMOOTHLY

Hlomuka mentioned that they are working as a unified government, hence the premier was present at the briefing.

He said, “We are working as one government. That’s why the premier is here. We have an integrated team which includes municipalities, CoGTA (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), and law enforcement agencies. That is why we are meeting to ensure that there is no disruption of exams.”

Hlomuka also added that they do have plans for mobile classes for schools that will be affected by disasters.

“We do have plans for schools that might be affected by a disaster. We will provide mobile classes and other resources that will be needed at that time. That’s why even if there’s a need sometimes to transport paper, we also use other modes of transport,” Hlomuka said.

NTULI PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE LATE NATHI MTHETHWA

Ntuli said that South Africa has suffered a huge loss with the passing of South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, after he allegedly died by suicide.

“We have lost a leader who has shaped the future and also contributed to the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We are sending condolences to the family, relatives and to the ANC and South Africa as a country,” said Ntuli.
