The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) Ronald Lamola has weighed in on AfriForum’s trip to the United States (US).
Lamola’s visit to the US is part of the country’s priority of economic diplomacy through forming strategic partnerships.
The minister is accompanied by academics, entrepreneurs, and creatives.
In an interview at the United Nations General Assembly in the US, Lamola criticised AfriForum. He labelled the movement as being divisive and anti-democratic.
“The Afrikaner community is a fundamental part of South Africa’s unity & diversity, one group among many that make our nation strong. They are not, and will never be, some separate, carved-out entity. We are one people under one flag,” Lamola said.

Afriforum’s trip to the US
Kriel said Human is on a mission to seek support for their orgarnisation’s security strategy. He said their master plan is aimed at combating “farm attacks” and forms of crime.
“AfriForum currently operates 177 neighbourhood and farm watch units across both rural and urban areas in South Africa, with over 10,000 safety volunteers actively working to fight crime and violence,” Kriel stated.
Additionally, Kriel praised the organisation, saying it is running a strong campaign to further strengthen and expand community safety networks.
The organisation’s CEO also indicated that support from the US would contribute meaningfully to their course.
However, Kriel noted that most support still comes from within SA, stating that they get assistance through active involvement in local safety structures.
