Kaizer Chiefs will be ruthless when refining their playing squad before next season. Title success and MTN8 qualification depend on it.
21-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala finished 2024-2025 poorly.
Can he resurrect his chances of becoming a Chiefs great?
‘Mayele will only come to South Africa for a holiday and Amapiano’
Shabalala has plenty of promise but even more to prove
At the start of 2024-2025, Mdu Shabalala was a critical component in the Chiefs side, operating from the number 10 role. His output was healthy, too. However, that has dwindled dramatically. In 27 league appearances last season, he only got four goals and an assist. His decision-making can also be questioned; with three men ahead of him and only two defenders, an easy pass would have guaranteed that Chiefs doubled their lead against Pirates in their most recent league encounter. Instead, he carelessly gave it away, and the Sea Robbers scored on the break through Evidence Makgopa.
Matlou will be on the plane to Holland for Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season tour
Talented midfield player George Matlou will join the squad on their pre-season tour to the Netherlands. That could be seen as a surprise, given his relatively fringe status.

Do you agree that Mdu needs to pull his socks up for Kaizer Chiefs?
