LIVE Clifton 4th Beach webcam: Sun-worshippers soak up the rays – WATCH

If you can’t physically make it to Clifton’s beaches in Cape Town, the next best thing may be watching the sunbathers, swimmers, and volleyball players soaking up the sun along one of the world’s most iconic coastlines.

Located on the Atlantic Seaboard, Clifton is made up of four pristine beach coves – simply named Clifton 1, 2, 3 and 4 – stretching from north to south.

Each cove is separated by smooth granite boulders and framed by almost pure white quartzite sand and icy turquoise waters, earning Clifton repeated spots on international lists of the world’s best beaches.

Clifton 4: The Star of the Show

While all four beaches have their own charm, Clifton 4 draws the biggest crowds.

It’s the go-to spot for:

  • Volleyball matches
  • Frisbee throwers
  • Sunbathers seeking picture-perfect views
  • Families and groups looking for a lively atmosphere

The beach offers ablution facilities, outdoor showers, and the option to hire umbrellas and sun loungers.

Local vendors roam the sand selling cool drinks, ice lollies, and beach snacks – a welcome sight on hot summer days.

A Safe and Scenic Beach Day

Lifeguards are on duty during the Blue Flag season (December to March), adding an extra layer of safety for swimmers willing to brave the famously chilly Atlantic water.

On calm, windless days, the bay often fills with yachts belonging to Cape Town’s rich, famous, and simply ocean-loving.

Arrive Early – Parking Is Limited

Clifton’s popularity comes with a challenge: parking. Spaces are scarce, especially in peak summer, so early arrival is the key to securing a good spot both on the beach and along the narrow roadside parking bays.

What About Sharks?

For nervous swimmers, here’s some good news: Shark sightings are extremely rare at Clifton and along most of the Atlantic coastline.

The cold, nutrient-poor waters of this side of the Cape are not a typical habitat for large shark species, making the area one of the safer zones for ocean dips.

DID YOU KNOW?

Clifton was originally called Skoenmakers Gat (Cobbler’s Cave) after a ship deserter who lived in a cave above second beach.
