A MAJOR UK motorway has ground to a halt after a car burst into flames.
The M6 in Staffordshire is closed between junction 11 and junction 10A as emergency services battle with the inferno.
Staffordshire Fire Service raced to respond to the blaze earlier today as traffic came to a standstill in the wake of the fire.
The road was closed off while fire crews battled the flames, drivers have been warned to expect delays.
National Highways Traffic Officers are providing assistance with traffic management.
National Highways said: “The M6 in Staffordshire is closed southbound between J11 (Shareshill, Cannock) and J10A (M54) due to a car fire.
“Lane 3 is now open on the northbound carriageway.
“Staffordshire Fire Service are on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are providing assistance with traffic management.
“Vehicle recovery is being arranged.”
