Thanks to his two tries at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham against Argentina on Saturday, hooker Malcolm Marx extended his lead as the Springboks’ all-time leading FORWARD try scorer.

In dotting down for his two five-pointers in South Africa’s 29-27 win over the Pumas, Marx joined former Springbok wing Breyton Paulse in a tie for SIXTH place overall on 26 tries.
Springbok legend
Marx, who is still only 31 years old, was playing in his 84th Test. He passed Springbok legend Percy Montgomery in the list, with the former fullback having scored 25 tries in his 102 Tests.
Up next for Marx is the 27 tries scored by Jean de Villiers.
Second among the forwards is Schalk Burger jnr with 16 tries (86 Tests), while Bongi Mbonambi rounds out the ‘podium’ with 15 tries in 81 Tests.
Marx and Paulse – and Piet Visagie – are tied for 22nd place in the list of most Test points scored in a Springbok jersey with 130.
They have Cheslin Kolbe (126 points) breathing down their necks – and Manie Libbok ahead of them on 133 points.
Most tries
It’s common knowledge that former wing Bryan Habana is the all-time leading Springbok Test try scorer.
Habana dotted down 67 times in his 124 Tests for South Africa.
That number is well ahead of the 38 tries scored by the late Joost van der Westhuizen.
The leading active player is Makazole Mapimpi (third place) with 33 tries in his 47 Tests, but he’s closer to the end rather than the start of his international career.
