EFF leader Julius Malema has called for police to urgently investigate Operation Dudula, describing the anti-migrant movement as a group of “thugs” that fuels violence.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Malema urged authorities to deploy the Political Killings Task Team against the group.
“Operation Dudula is a group of thugs and must be subjected to the Political Killings Task Team. Period!” he wrote.
His comments followed a visit to Nigeria, where he repeated his calls for pan-African unity and open borders.
What is Operation Dudula?
Operation Dudula began as a grassroots campaign claiming to fight illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and the unlawful use of jobs and services by undocumented foreign nationals.
Members have blocked clinics, inspected businesses, and confronted immigrants.
In July, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko slammed Dudula activists for blocking state hospitals, where they reportedly demanded IDs from patients and turned away foreign nationals.
The South African Human Rights Commission has also condemned the group’s actions in recent weeks.
Do you think Malema is justified in calling for a police investigation into Operation Dudula’s actions in the communities?
