Man City vs Burnley preview
Manchester City host Burnley in what is, statistically, one of the most one-sided fixtures on the Premier League calendar.
The Cityzens have won each of their last 13 meetings with Burnley in all competitions, racking up an aggregate score of 46-2. Only against three sides have Pep Guardiola’s team enjoyed a longer winning run in their history.
So Saturday’s encounter could prove the perfect tonic for City, who have collected just seven points from their opening five top-flight matches.
However, Guardiola will be encouraged by his side’s performances since that defeat to Brighton. City have won three of their last four – including the Manchester derby – and came within seconds of claiming a big three points away to Arsenal at the Emirates.
Pep was content to sit back and try to see out the match that day – but that’s unlikely to be the case against Burnley this weekend.
No team in the Premier League has faced more shots (95), more shots on target (25), or recorded a higher xG against (10.5) than Burnley so far this season. And City’s record against promoted sides is formidable – they’ve won 22 of their last 24 league games against newly promoted teams.
It all points to a difficult afternoon for Scott Parker’s side, who have lost three of their last four in all competitions – including a midweek defeat to League One Cardiff in the Carabao Cup.
That may sound harsh on Burnley, especially given they’ve already faced Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United in their opening five matches – losing to Arne Slot’s side in the dying seconds.
