Giggs, 51, is set to bank about £14million after closing down his company but the process cannot be completed until the legal action has concluded.

He is speaking to experts and believes he is entitled to the sum.

Paperwork for Ryan Giggs Limited, the firm he used for football-related earnings, revealed he is set to make a claim for the six-figure amount with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Liquidators for Giggs’ firm confirmed: “Details in relation to a potential claim have been reviewed and the process for submitting a claim is currently being investigated.”

Giggs set up his football firm in 1994 and employed Grant Thornton as his accountant as recently as 2022.

Earlier this year, the former Wales international suffered another financial blow when he lost £100,000.

That loss came after his restaurant, George’s, went bust with debts of more than £500,000.

Giggs played a club-record 963 games for United and scored 168 goals and provided 268 assists.

During this time he helped the club win 13 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions Leagues.

He was contacted for comment.

United in the meantime, are struggling on the pitch following their 3-1 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League.

The result has left the club 13th in the table, just two spots above last season’s dreadful 15th placement.
