Man’s body was found by playing children in woodland but mystery remains how he died

AN INQUEST into the death of a man whose body was found dead by a group of children playing in woodland was opened this week.

Andrew Yourglivch, 59, was found in East Hill Woods in Costessey, Norfolk on July 23, 2024.

The victim was reported missing two weeks prior but he was sighted a month before his tragic death on June 27.

This week, an inquest into his mysterious disappearance and death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court.

Coroner Yvonne Blake stated that Yourglivch was born in Norwich and worked as an employee support officer.

However, she is as yet unsure of the circumstances of his death.

His cause of death was given provisionally as “unascertained due to decomposition”.

The hearing has been adjourned until February 6, 2026.

The provisional medical cause of his death was given by pathologist Ben Swift as “unascertained due to decomposition”.

A statement from the force at the time of Yourglivch’s death said: “Police can confirm a body has been found in woodland in Costessey on Tuesday, 23 July.

“Officers were called to an area off East Hills Road shortly before 2.30pm following reports a group of children playing in the woods had found the body of a man.

“A police cordon remains in place and the death is being treated as unexplained.

“Further contact will be made with the families of the children involved in the discovery over the coming days to offer any support.”
