As the soldiers approached the village, a Russian commander told them to “kill everyone indiscriminately”, including the civilian population.
The commander – with the call sign “Bali” – said for soldiers to only spare children in their assault.
The video shows the armed soldiers walking through a village and fields, where in one video a building is on fire.
The intercepted video includes the audio of the instructing Russian commanders.
The unit breaks into a family home, where they murder an entire family with the exception of a young daughter.
As per their commanders’ orders, the soldiers kidnap the girl to use as a human shield.
The bloodbath happened in the Shandryholove village in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine.
The video – released by the 3rd Corps – came with a statement, that said: “All radio intercepts confirm that Russian actions were premeditated”.
Russian troops have been documented killing civilians in front-line areas on numerous occasions since the outbreak of full-scale war in 2022, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The murders are part of a wider pattern of abuse and repression.
“Russia is using [the captured girl] as a human shield for its unit advancing in the Lyman sector,” the military unit said.
Murdering civilians and using them as human shields is considered a war crime under the Geneva Convention.
Russia has been accused of widespread torture, abuse and summary executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians throughout the full-scale invasion.
Children have often been among the victims of Russia’s sustained aggression.
More than 2000 children have been killed during the Russia-Ukraine war, according to the UN; however, the accurate figure is likely much higher.
Moscow does not allow independent monitoring of some of the most war-stricken areas.

This comes after the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said the country will go to war with the West if NATO shoots down Russian fighter jets.
International tension has reached a new high after Russia was accused of violating NATO airspace multiple times in recent weeks.
Trump told NATO to shoot down Russian planes if they breach European airspace again.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York during the week, the president said member states “shouldn’t hesitate”.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday said that his country is at “war” with NATO and the EU over Ukraine.
“NATO and the European Union want to declare, in fact, have already declared a real war on my country and are directly participating in it,” Lavrov said at a G20 conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
His comments came just days after Trump insisted Ukraine can wrestle back all of its land snatched by Russia – and even go “further”.
He dubbed Moscow a “paper tiger”, which he said can be shredded with time, patience and tactical support.
Trump’s latest statement on the Ukraine war is a big shift from his earlier stance that Kyiv would have to give up territory for peace.
