My husband hated smoking so I vaped in secret, confesses Katie Piper & reveals terrifying side effect that made her quit

KATIE Piper has opened up about secretly vaping in her downstairs loo to hide it from her husband – but developed a scary side effect.

The Loose Women star, 41, made the confession on the ITV show’s podcast and admitted she is horrified about the thought of her own 11-year-old daughter doing it.

This comes as a study a quarter of 11 to 15-year-olds have tried vaping and one in 10 do it frequently, according to the NHS.

Health-conscious Katie, who is a mum to Belle, 11, and Penelope, seven, revealed she herself started smoking when she was in Year 8 at school, aged around 13 or 14.

She said on the podcast: “The thought of my children vaping horrifies me, because I don’t want them to do damage. They’re 11 and seven.

“As an adult I value health so much.”

Katie opened up about her strategy for putting her kids off smoking, and said she won’t tell them about the risk of getting cancer or diseases.

She explained: “I would tell [my year 7 daughter] the stuff I know she cares about.

“She wants to be a singer, right? She’s got a great voice.

“I’d be like: ‘this is going to destroy your voice’.

“I’d say what it will do to your skin, your eyes, your nails

“I would go for the stuff that is more present in their mind. The ones that are going to affect your future career.”

Katie, who was the victim of a horror acid attack in 2008 when an associate of Katie’s ex-partner doused her in acid, spoke about the time she tried vaping herself and had a horrible side effect.

The mum-of-two shared: “I tried one, right? I went to this event. It was Silverstone. It was the racing.

“And we were in a box that was sponsored by a vape brand, so they were giving them all out.

“And I used to smoke years ago, so I thought, well, let me just try one.

“I was smoking it at the event.

“And I woke up the next day and I was like, ‘where’s that vape? I want that.’”

SECRET VAPING

Katie said she felt like she had to be sneaky about vaping around her husband, Richard Sutton, who she wed in 2015.

She explained: “Richie hates it. Honestly.

“One of his conditions when he first started dating me was that I quit smoking. So actually, I quit.

“So then I had to go downstairs, get the vape out of my clutch bag and vape in the downstairs loo in the house.”

However, she began to notice that something wasn’t quite right.

Katie continued: “After about a week of using it, I got a pain in the back of my neck, and I couldn’t tell Richie, because he didn’t know about it.

“I mean, I don’t actually know if that neck pain was anything to do with vaping.

“But I will say, if you are experiencing any kind of symptoms or have any worries, please do always go to your GP and seek their advice.”

SCARY SIDE EFFECT

According to Pain Medicine Group, many e-cigarette users have experienced neck pain and headaches after vaping.

They stated: “While not officially listed as a side effect, investigation into the matter has determined that muscle aches are a recognised side effect of vaping.

“There has been no insight into what is causing the problem exactly, but some theorise the propylene glycol in the vape is metabolised into lactic acid and is causing pain.”

Britain’s teen vaping craze is storing up a generation of heart diseases, leading doctors fear.

Experts warn there is growing evidence that trendy e-cigarettes can seriously damage the blood vessels, heart and brain.

And research suggests they are a gateway to drink and drugs, with young users three times more likely to booze or smoke fags or weed when they grow up.

Past studies have suggested that, compared to non-vapers, vapers are 32 per cent more likely to have a stroke and 24 per cent more likely to have heart disease or asthma.

Katie Piper slams shocking message from troll

ITV stars have rallied around Katie Piper after she called out a troll who made a vile comment about her appearance.

The Loose Women presenter and activist suffered a horrific acid attack in 2008 that left her with severe facial injuries.

Katie was 24 and an aspiring presenter starting out her career with promotional modelling gigs and jobs on digital TV, when she was attacked.

She told The Sun she was lucky to have survived, but there was an agonising road to recovery ahead to rebuild her face and her life – her injuries have required more than 400 operations since that day.

Katie addressed her followers on Sunday afternoon, having opened her Instagram that morning to the nasty message.

The troll asked, “where is your nose?” to which she responded that her nose was being pulled into her face by thick scar tissue, causing her horrible pain.

The troll then suggested that she should jump from a window.

Katie shared the exchange in a post on Instagram, admitting comments like this can set her back.

She said: “After completing my run this morning, feeling already depleted because of my bad time, I opened my phone to this.

“I can handle most things, but sometimes it adds to an already heavy load you are carrying.

“You never know how people are feeling, what they’re going through, how their days are and even if you did, the only person we’re judging because of this comment, is you.

“I wouldn’t usually call this out so personally, but this is beyond anything even I can handle. This behaviour should always be called out, people need to do better.”

Dozens shared their horror at the message and support for Katie, with Coleen Nolan, Ranvir Singh, Adil Ray and Denise Welch among the first to post in the comments.

Coleen said: “Oh god Katie this is so so vile ! I think these kind of people have no life , no friends and would prefer hate towards them then nothing at all.

“I’m trying to feel sorry for this sad individual but I’m finding it really difficult.. you on the other hand are one of the most beautiful individuals I’ve ever met. Never let anyone dull your shine.”
