Mystery as BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt are REPLACED amid off-screen misconduct claims

BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt went missing from the show this morning as they were replaced by stand-in hosts.

The TV stars usually host the programme from Thursday through to Saturday but neither of them appeared on the sofa this morning.

Instead, they were both replaced by Sarah Campbell and Ben Thompson who took the reins from 6am this morning.

Neither Sarah nor Ben addressed Naga and Charlie’s absence from the programme and instead kicked off simply by saying: “Good morning, welcome to Breakfast with Sarah Campbell and Ben Thompson.”

It also did not go unnoticed online as some fans were quick to pick up on their absence.

One wrote on X:  “Charlie and Naga off again? Together?”

As someone else penned: “Where’s Naga and Charlie??”

The Sun understands that Charlie will return to the show as normal tomorrow with Naga back the following week.

Their absence comes amid recent misconduct claims behind-the-scenes at BBC Breakfast with both Naga and Charlie facing investigations into reports of bullying on-set of the programme.

The Sun told how both Naga and Charlie could leave the programme after complaints against under-fire editor Richard Frediani were not upheld following a probe that rocked the award-winning show.

The inquiry, first revealed by The Sun in June, sparked counter-claims against main hosts Munchetty, 50, and Stayt, 63.

Frediani has now been backed by Beeb bosses and will remain in his role on daytime and News At One.

A source said: “He makes no pretence of the fact that he is old-school and that means some people won’t like his working practices, but they are delivering excellent results and that’s what matters most to him.

“He feels like it has been a witch-hunt and it’s taken its toll but he’s cracking on.

“Naga and Charlie are furious and feel like the BBC have backed him over them.

“No one would be surprised if they ended up leaving.”

The hosts remain “under review” following bullying complaints as part of a “listening” investigation led by HR.

The Sun told how Naga once laid into an intern for incorrectly spreading Marmite on her toast.

BBC spokesman said: “While we do not comment on individual HR matters, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.”
