NEW DATE for electricity maintenance work in Cape Town’s northern suburbs

Capetonians that reside in Bellville need to make allowances for rescheduled critical electrical maintenance work on Tuesday, 28 October.

Power supply interruptions will occur from 07:30 to 16:30, if all goes to plan.

The City confirmed that the maintenance – originally planned for Saturday, 25 October – has been postponed due to operational reasons.

“Please note that the work will no longer proceed on Saturday, 25 October 2025 as originally communicated,” the City said in a statement.

“The City apologises for any inconvenience caused while the essential maintenance is being carried out.”

Which Bellville areas will be affected?

Power will be switched off in select parts of Kanonberg, Oude Westhof, Van Riebeeckshof, Welgedacht, and Protea Valley during the maintenance period.

The City has stressed that the outage will only affect the highlighted areas on the official outage map, which can be accessed here.

The electricity supply could be restored at any time on the day and residents are advised to take the necessary precautions:

  • Treat all electrical connections as live for the full duration of the outage window (07:30 – 16:30).
  • Switch off appliances and sensitive electronics to prevent damage from potential power surges once electricity is restored.

For any queries or updates during the outage, contact the City’s Call Centre at 0860 103 089.

Over 60 000 water meters to be replaced across the following Cape Town areas

In related news, roughly 62 000 ageing and faulty water meters will be replaced across Cape Town to ensure residents receive accurate readings.

The large-scale replacements form part of the City of Cape Town Water and Sanitation Directorate’s 2025/26 Water Meter Replacement Programme.

The programme began in August 2025, and runs until the end of June 2026.

“An accurate reading saves both water and money as it reduces estimates and allows customers to track their water use, identify spikes and detect possible leaks,” said the City’s Mayco Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
