Emirates has introduced its newly retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft on services to South Africa.
This makes South Africa the first in Africa to receive the airline’s latest cabin upgrades.
The rollout, which began in September, includes the debut of Emirates’ Premium Economy class on major South African routes.

The retrofitted 777s feature a complete interior refresh across all classes. Business Class now offers a 1-2-1 layout, giving passengers direct aisle access and greater privacy.
Premium Economy debuts with larger reclining seats, footrests, power outlets, and 13.3-inch entertainment screens. Economy has also been updated with a lighter, more comfortable design.
The new interiors adopt Emirates’ signature aesthetic, with a modern colour palette, Ghaf Tree-inspired motifs, and wood finishes throughout.
The new aircraft will be deployed on the following routes:
- Johannesburg: EK 765/766 from 1 September; EK 761/762 from 25 September
- Cape Town: EK 770/771 daily from 20 September
The airline is investing billions into a global retrofit program spanning both its Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s, with hundreds of aircraft scheduled for upgrades.
