New Ring doorbell adds AI security guard to warn you over danger & has mind-blowing ‘neighbour’ trick to find lost pets

AMAZON has dished out some major Ring doorbell upgrades, including an AI security guard that warns you about danger.

One of the big new Ring gadgets is the Wired Video Doorbell Pro, with a massive camera upgrade.

For a start, it comes with 4K resolution, meaning it can capture extra detail.

Amazon is calling this “Retinal 4K”, and says it’ll show you decent imagery “even in the most challenging conditions”.

“Retinal 4K technology doesn’t just capture what’s there – it brings it to life,” Amazon boasted.

The tech giant continued: “Providing a clear view that empowers users to experience their surroundings in a way that was previously impossible.

“It’s like seeing it with your very own eyes.”

The new camera also has 10x zoom and delivers improved low-light performance, which is handy in the evening or at night.

In fact, Amazon says that its Adaptive Night Vision mode can give you a clearer picture “even in total darkness”.

It says it works by balancing bright whites and deep blacks to “reveal what the human eye can’t”.

So you might catch moments that you would’ve otherwise missed, potentially making you feel safer at home.

BONUS FEATURES

Amazon also unveiled several AI tricks to make its Ring video doorbells even more brainy.

It’s currently unclear whether these features will be available in the UK at any point, or if they’re US-only.

The first is Alexa+ Greetings, which is a bonus perk for anyone paying for an Alexa+ subscription in the USA.

Amazon describes it as “a new feature that transforms Alexa into a smart doorbell attendant”.

“If a solicitor stops by, now Alexa+ can do the talking for you and ask the purpose of their visit,” Amazon explains.

“It can also manage deliveries, provide instructions, and even identify the purpose of a visit—all while keeping you informed.”

Amazon is also making it so that your doorbell can act even more like a security guard, by alerting you to what’s going on through notifications.

Instead of just sending you clips, smarter notifications will describe what the camera is seeing in text form.

So you might be told that a woman has approached your door with a box, for instance. Or if someone is lingering outside of your house – potentially someone dangerous looking for a way in.

Then you can decide whether you actually need to tap into the notification or not.

And one of the more mind-blowing perks coming to Ring doorbells is Search Party for Dogs.

This is an AI feature that makes use of Ring doorbells owned by your neighbours.

“When a neighbour reports a lost dog in the Ring app, those with nearby outdoor Ring cameras start a Search Party,” Amazon explained.

“Using AI to look for possible matches, outdoor cameras will notify camera owners if they spot what might be the missing dog.

“Your Ring app will show you a picture of the lost dog and relevant camera footage. With Ring’s Search Party, your privacy is always in your control.

“You can ignore the alert or choose to share the info with your neighbour in need.”
