Newborn baby murdered and burnt beyond recognition in Limpopo

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has vehemently condemned the brutal murder of a newborn baby and the subsequent burning of his /her body.

The minor’s lifeless body was found burnt beyond recognition at Mashobohleng village, Moletji on Friday, 5 September. 

NEWBORN BABY BURNT BEYOND RECOGNITION 

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the police in Seshego under Capricorn District were called to the scene of murder at Moletji, Mashobohleng village on Friday, 5 September 2025 at about 15:45.

On their arrival, they found a baby estimated to be two weeks old who was found by a community member next to a local school in the bushes, burnt beyond recognition, Ledwaba said. 

POLICE COMMISSIONER CONDEMNS BRUTAL MURDER 

Meanwhile, Limpopo police commissioner Thembi Hadebe has condemned the increase in  incidents whereby newborn babies were abandoned or killed. 

“The recent incidents of abandoning newborn babies alive or deceased is becoming a serious problem in the province. 

“If you give birth to a child and you realise that you don’t need to keep him /her, it’s advisable to approach the Department of Social Development for advice on adoption as the option rather than killing innocent blood,” Hadebe said. 

Police have urged anyone with information that can assist with the investigations to come forward as investigations continue.
