Newcastle vs Arsenal preview
It’s a fixture which has had a bit of needle the last couple of seasons and Sunday could continue that.
Both teams come into the game having navigated their way through the League Cup in midweek against lower league opposition.
That comes after also both drawing as part of Super Sunday last weekend, with the Toon goalless at Bournemouth and Arsenal rescuing a point against Manchester City.
Newcastle have only scored three goals in five league games – but have also only conceded three and they were all with 10 men against Liverpool.
Their results and lacking of cutting edge so far have left them midway inside the bottom half.
Mikel Arteta said after that draw at home to City last weekend that his side ‘dominated’ the game.
Presumably he means they had more of the ball, which they definitely did, but it took a lapse in concentration by the City back line to allow Arsenal their equaliser as the Gunners toiled for any sort of cutting edge themselves.
They also named a strong line-up for the trip to Port Vale in midweek, where again they created chances but only managed a 2-0 win which will be of some concern.
Particularly against a Toon side with four clean sheets from five league outings this season….

Cards
The weekly toss-up between Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton to be carded. Both were rested last weekend before the latter bagged a brace in midweek.
Big Joe was booked against Barcelona with Bruno G carded the game prior against Wolves.
Bruno been booked in three of eight games against Gunners, Joelinton last yellows in more games. No surprises if both are but we’ll opt for the skipper.

These Premier League games have a funny way of going against the form and stats to throw up unpredictability.
The lack of goals in recent Arsenal games at this time in the 1-0 defeat at Anfield and late goal for 1-1 last week shows they’re not always full of goals.
Added to that Newcastle scoring three and conceding just three in five games so far, this one may not be a classic. We’ve been wrong before though!
