Orlando Pirates have mulled over a key decision for months. Jose Riveiro left the club, and there’s a big name arriving.

Rulani Mokwena will return to the Buccaneers for 2025-2025.

The 38-year-old leaves Wydad AC after an underwhelming season in Morocco.

Orlando Pirates to hire Rulani

38-year-old Rulani Mokwena will be the next Orlando Pirates manager, according to several local sources. The former Sundowns head coach oversaw 35 matches with Wydad Casablanca in a spell that lasted under 10 months. He returned an average of 1.60 points per game in that sample. Mokwena held assistant and caretaker manager roles at Pirates from 2017 to 2019.

Eight players to arrive at Orlando Pirates

The ever-reputable @UnplayableZA on X believes Pirates will unveil as many as eight new signings soon. Sihle Nduli, Kabelo Kgositsile, Tshepo Mashilone, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Tshepang Moremi are all expected to be Buccaneers soon.

Is Mbuthuma picking Pirates before Chiefs?

Yanela Mbuthuma will challenge Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa for a striking role. He got five goals and two assists in 24 league appearances last term for Richards Bay.
