Orlando Pirates legend Joseph “Duku Duku” Makhanya has joined the club’s senior team in a new role.
Makhanya had been the club’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team coach for a number of years now.
However, following what has been a successful stint in that role, Pirates took the decision to promote him.
Makhanya holds a CAF B License and he’s already working towards obtaining his CAF A Coaching License.

ORLANDO PIRATES PROMOTE DUKU DUKU MAKHANYA
The Kagiso-born mentor will now work side-by-side with Mandla Ncikazi as Abdeslam Ouaddou’s assistants.
Makhanya has been handed the role of second assistant to Ouaddou alongside Ncikazi who is the first assistant coach.
He flew out to Spain on Monday with the rest of the Pirates team to resume his duties in his new role.
As reported on The South African, Pirates have since found Makhanya’s replacement in the DDC.
Former SuperSport United DDC team coach Roscoe Krieling has taken over from Makhanya at Pirates.
Krieling guided SuperSport United to the DDC championship back in 2023, and he will hope to do it with Pirates this time around.
