Orlando Pirates wrapped up their European tour with a 2-0 win over Granada, but the buzz after the game wasn’t about the score – it was about Relebohile Mofokeng.
The 20-year-old starlet found the back of the net in what could potentially be his final outing in a Buccaneers shirt. Multiple clubs, including Al Ahly, FC Cincinnati, and Dutch giants PSV, are reportedly monitoring the talented midfielder.
Sources suggest that PSV are ready to make a serious offer.
“R100 million is like a round figure. It’s more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,” an insider said. “You know it’s not exactly what you want that you get, and that’s why they are talking about the R100 million, but it’s believed to be more than that.”
Another source added that while PSV had interest in Iqraam Rayners, Mofokeng has emerged as their top choice.
“There are different scouts from Holland who are believed to be working with recruiters for PSV,” the second insider shared. “They enquired about Iqraam Rayners but now seem focused on a long-term investment—hence the shift to Mofokeng.”
What’s happening with Makhaula?
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are also busy on the domestic front. Veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has been offered a new deal. His agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, confirmed that discussions have been positive.
“What I can confirm is that our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties,” he said. “It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement on Makhaula’s contract and its duration.”
If Mofokeng does leave, it could mark a significant reshuffle in the Orlando Pirates midfield. Losing one of their brightest stars will be a blow, but retaining experience like Makhaula could be a stabilising factor.
