Eskom has announced a 10-hour power outage in parts of Gauteng this Wednesday, 25 June, to conduct essential maintenance on its distribution infrastructure. The power cut will begin at 8:00 and is expected to last until 18:00.
The areas that will be affected include Tsakane Extensions 16, 17, and 19, as well as Duduza Extension 3 and Zamane. Eskom said the planned interruption is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the electricity supply in the long term.
“The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” Eskom said in a notice.
Safety and appliance caution during a power outage
In the interest of public safety, Eskom has urged all residents in the affected areas to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the outage. This precaution aims to avoid any electrical accidents if power is restored unexpectedly.
“Customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” the utility added.
The utility also said that while the maintenance is scheduled, unforeseen circumstances may lead to changes in the plan.
Apology and Possibility of Schedule Changes
Eskom has apologised in advance for any inconvenience the power outage may cause and thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation. The power utility also issued a disclaimer, noting that the maintenance might be rescheduled if events beyond their control arise.
“Eskom would like to thank you for your cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused by this maintenance,” the notice concluded.
