Popular festival returns to Cape Town this October

The skies above Cape Town are set to burst with colour once again as the Cape Town International Kite Festival returns to the Mother City this month.

Set to be bigger, brighter, and brimming with heart, the festival will be celebrating its 31st anniversary, with a powerful new theme: #CourageToFly.

As always, the event stands as a symbol of hope, resilience, and togetherness, highlighting the courage it takes to face life’s challenges, particularly those surrounding mental health.

Kite Festival returns to Cape Town for two days

The festival is back to its two-day format this year, running on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 October 2025.

This year also marks a new chapter with a fresh venue, the Youngsfield Military Base in Ottery, where the city’s skies will once again come alive with vibrant kites from around the world.

Visitors can expect a feast of colour and creativity as local and international kite flyers showcase their artistry. The line-up also includes kite-making workshops, live entertainment, food stalls, and a dedicated kids’ zone, making it a perfect family day out.

“The festival continues to expand its reach beyond the two-day celebration through initiatives such as the EduKite competition for schools, community fly events like the Heideveld Community Fly, and a variety of inclusive activities that ensure children and adults of all abilities can participate,” the organisers said.

While it’s a joyful celebration, the festival also carries a deeper purpose: raising awareness about mental health and the strength it takes to stay grounded in turbulent times.
