Popular South African and UK deodorant recalled

Popular deodorant brand Mitchum has issued a recall of specific batches of its 48-hour 100 ml roll-on deodorant following multiple reports of skin irritation from consumers in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

The manufacturer confirmed in a public statement shared via Facebook that the recall was prompted by customer feedback describing discomfort after using the affected product.

Modification in the manufacturing process

“Some of you have told us that you have experienced skin irritation after using select batches of Mitchum 48-hour 100 ml Roll-On, sold here in South Africa. No other product lines are affected,” the company said.

According to Mitchum, the issue was not caused by a change in the product’s formula but rather a modification in the manufacturing process of one of the raw materials used in the deodorant.

This adjustment inadvertently changed how the product interacts with some users’ skin.

“While the formula itself hasn’t changed, a change in the manufacturing process of one of our raw materials altered how the product interacts with the skin of some consumers,” the statement added.

Mitchum has since returned to its original production process and is working closely with retail partners to remove affected items from store shelves.

How to Identify Affected Batches

Consumers are advised to inspect their Mitchum roll-on products and look for the batch number located on the bottom of the packaging.

Only a limited number of batches are affected. Mitchum has provided guidance to help customers determine whether their product is safe to use.

Those experiencing irritation are urged to discontinue use immediately and contact Mitchum’s customer service for assistance.
