Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Charles Spencer, has fondly remembered her on the 28th anniversary of her death.
The mother of Princes William and Harry – and ex-wife of now King Charles – died in a fiery car crash on 31 August 1997. She was just 36 years old.
PRINCESS DIANA REMEMBERED ON DEATH ANNIVERSARY
On his Instagram account, Charles Spencer remembered his younger sister, the late Princess Diana.
The late royal is buried on an island at Althorp House, a Spencer family property, which was also her childhood home.
Charles revealed how fresh-cut flowers would be laid at her final resting place.
“Always an impossible day”, the emotional Earl posted.
Charles also posted another image of bouquets of flowers that had been left for the late royal.
FIERY CRASH
In 1997, Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed died from injuries relating to a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, France. The couple was holidaying in France ahead of the crash. Diana was just 36 years old.
In the years leading up to her death, Diana separated from her husband, Prince Charles, over his alleged affair with his mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles.
In 1995, Princess Diana infamously said in a Panorama interview with Martin Bashir about her relationship: “Well, there were three of us in this marriage. So it was a bit crowded.”
Diana and Charles would officially divorce in 1996, and sadly, the Princess would die in a fatal car crash in 1997.
LAST WORDS
After her death, firefighter and first responder Xavier Gourmelon shared an account of arriving on the scene of Princess Diana’s fatal car crash.
Gourmelon confirmed that the blonde royal was alive and was being treated by paramedics.
Her last words were: “My God, what’s happened?” before going into cardiac arrest.
He told The Sun: “To be honest, I thought she would live. As far as I knew, when she was in the ambulance, she was alive, and I expected her to live.
“But I found out later she had died in hospital. It was very upsetting. I know now that there were serious internal injuries, but the whole episode is still very much in my mind.”
