RAND WATER MAINTENANCE TO IMPACT SEVERAL JOHANNESBURG SYSTEMS

In May, The South African reported that Rand Water would conduct critical maintenance on its key infrastructure between May and July, resulting in major disruptions in Gauteng.

The water utility said the objective of the maintenance is to increase capacity and improve plant availability, reliability in preparation for the anticipated increase in supply volumes from August.

Regarding the maintenance commencing on Monday, Johannesburg Water advised residents to store water in advance as there would be no pumping for the duration of the maintenance. Additionally, water tankers will only be deployed after 24 hours.

HERE ARE THE AFFECTED SYSTEMS:

Rand Water will be replacing valves at the Zwartkojpes Station. As a result, the following systems will be affected:

OTHER GAUTENG AREAS AFFECTED BY THE MAINTENANCE

As previously reported, during the above-mentioned period, pumping capacity will be reduced at Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes systems. As a result, areas within the City of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane may experience low water pressure or intermittent supply. The maintenance may also impact water provision to local municipalities.

Meanwhile, the City of Ekurhuleni has urged residents and businesses to make the necessary preparations to minimize inconvenience during this period.

The metro municipality said water tankers will be deployed to the affected areas to provide temporary relief.

“Full restoration of the water supply may take up to seven days after completion of the maintenance, and high-lying areas and those receiving supply from pumping systems will take longer to recover.”
