Rassie Erasmus wakes up at 02:30 to watch Springbok Women win

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has congratulated the Springbok Women’s side for making history by qualifying for the Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history following their 29-24 victory against Italy on Sunday.

‘Wish them luck’

“I woke up at 02:30 (in New Zealand) to watch the match, and I’d like to congratulate Swys (de Bruin) and his team for what they achieved, and also SA Rugby for everything they are doing for women’s rugby.

“We are immensely proud of them, and we wish them luck as they continue their campaign,” Erasmus said.

The Springbok Women’s beat Brazil 66-6 in their opening Pool D match and will wrap up the pool phase play against France on Sunday, 7 September at Franklin’s Gardens in Northampton.

Win or lose, the Springbok Women are guaranteed a spot in the Last 8.

How far will the Springbok Women progress at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup?
