‘Respect’: Springboks share emotional moment with Ardie Savea

Springbok captains Jesse Kriel and Siya Kolisi shared a heartwarming moment with All Blacks vice-captain Ardie Savea, who celebrated his 100th test match in Eden Park on Saturday, 6 September.

New Zealand maintained their winning streak at the Auckland venue – nicknamed the “Fortress” – with a 24-17 victory.

In a heartwarming clip posted on the All Blacks social media accounts, Jesse Kriel – who was named Springbok captain ahead of Siya Kolisi’s inclusion in the team, embraced Ardie Savea after the final whistle blew.

Jesse, together with Siya, presented a token of their appreciation – a Springboks shirt and a a gift – to the All Blacks vice-captain, who celebrated his 100th cap.

“Something small from all the boys”, Jesse said to a humble Ardie.

Siya added, “I’m Proud of you; you deserve it.” He said it was an honour to play alongside the living legend.

“Respect”, the All Blacks account said of the exchange.

ARDIE SAVEA: ‘WE’RE JUST BROTHERS’

Speaking ahead of his 100th test match appearance, Ardie Savea shared how the All Blacks had a special bond with the Springboks.

He said of the South African side: “Huge respect to the Springboks, and we hugely respect Eden Park and our home”.

He added: “To be able to go out there firstly and be named to play against the Springboks in this test match is a great challenge. And something that you know is going to be hard and tough. But something for all of us to work towards.”

“We’re just brothers off the field, we represent two different countries that you know want to get the result”.
