Road resurfacing on two major roads in Monte Vista, Cape Town, is officially underway.
According to the City of Cape Town, work on Giel Basson Drive and Rothschild Boulevard began on Monday, 2 February 2026.
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is in charge of these operations.
ROAD USERS, TAKE NOTE
Per a recent statement issued by the City, this work will take place on the following roads:
- Road resurfacing along Giel Basson Drive (northbound and southbound) from the N1 bridge to Rothschild Boulevard.
- Road resurfacing along Rothschild Boulevard (Eastbound and Westbound) from Giel Basson Drive to Monte Vista Boulevard Circle.
To avoid peak traffic times, operations will take place at night between 19:00 and 05:30 from Monday to Friday. This also depends on weather conditions.
At 06:00 on weekdays, all lanes will be reopened to traffic. However, unforeseen delays may occur.
Should everything go according to plan, the work is expected to be completed by Thursday, 19 February 2026.
‘KEEP CAPE TOWN MOVING’
This is one of the City of Cape Town’s efforts to improve its road network. Currently, roadworks are being carried out on La Balle Road in Bellville’s industrial area.
Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, has asked residents and businesses in the Monte Vista and Kaapzicht areas to “remain patient”.
“We ask that the public remain patient while these projects are underway, as we have a limited period of time during the year where we can push to complete as much of this work as possible,” Quintas explained. “Maintaining these roads is one of the ways in which we keep Cape Town moving.”
With traffic congestion a certainty during this period, residents and motorists travelling through the area are strongly urged to utilise alternative routes between 19:00 and 05:30.
