The wife of Springbok Deon Fourie has posted a message of encouragement to her spouse amid what has been referred to as a “career-ending injury.”
The rugby veteran sustained a bicep injury during a recent Stormers vs Scarlets game, after making his return from a previous one.
DEON FOURIE’S WIFE SHARES SWEET POST
On her Instagram account, Deon Fourie’s wife, Jean-Marie, shared an emotional message to her husband.
The post featured an image of the couple embracing.
She shared: “Sometimes the road is uncertain, the turns long and the mountains high. But I will always be here, and we will never perish.
The Springbok WAG added: “Whatever we deny or embrace, for worse or for better, we belong, we belong, we belong together”.
INJURY UPDATE
According to Stormers boss John Dobson, Deon Fourie’s injury has ruled him out of play for the remainder of the season.
Earlier this month, the 39-year-old suffered another injury blow during a Stormers match against Scarlets. The veteran Bok had recently returned from a knee injury, which he sustained in April.
Dobson said in a post-match interview: “’Deon’s devastated. It’s a serious bicep injury, which will require surgery. It’s an emotional change room”.
HOW OLD IS DEON FOURIE?
Deon Fourie is currently 39 years old. In 2022, he became the oldest Springbok to make his debut at the age of 35. He was part of the squad that won the Rugby World Cup in France in 2023.
The Pretoria-born player was hailed as a Springbok hero for his instrumental performances, which helped the squad win back-to-back titles.
In the final between the Boks and New Zealand’s All Blacks, Fourie substituted an injured Bongi Mbonambi and played for a grand total of 77 minutes!
