SA hairstylist breaks World Record for most underwater haircuts

A South African hairstylist has officially made history – underwater.

On Saturday, 29 November, André Green shattered the Guinness World Record for the most underwater haircuts completed in one hour, delivering an astonishing 31 haircuts at the pool of the Abraham Kriel Bambanani Langlaagte Children’s Home.

The most underwater haircuts in the world

The challenge, done in the name of charity, required both scuba gear and sharp scissors, and tested speed, endurance and skill.

Green said he was confident going in, having trained underwater for weeks.

“I knew I was going to be fast because I had trained in water and already understood my times,” he explained.

“During the very first cut, I actually chopped my finger, but I worked through it and realised I was still ahead of pace.” Green said.

Families, supporters and excited onlookers gathered poolside to witness the record-breaking event.

The attempt was backed by a skilled team from Reef Divers, who oversaw safety and ensured every underwater moment ran smoothly. The team helped transform Green’s bold idea into a seamless and spectacular achievement.

A record that sparked a wave of kindness

And support didn’t end when the timer stopped. Donations continued throughout the day and well into the night, helping to brighten the festive season for the more than 800 children who depend on the organisation’s care.

A non-profit organisation based in Gauteng since 1902, the Abraham Kriel Bambanani, is dedicated to
the care, protection, and development of vulnerable children and youth in need. They provide
holistic residential care, community services, and educational programs (ECDC and Skills centre
included) to empower the next generation.
