It’s been a forgettable October for SASSA-Capitec grant beneficiaries. According to reports, both the agency and bank had to “work around the clock to resolve the SASSA-Capitec issue,” that arose last week Friday 3 October 2025.
A ‘technical glitch’ was confirmed by the agency as the reason more than 15 000 SASSA-Capitec beneficiaries did not receive their grants. As such, SASSA said anyone who had not received their payment last Thursday 2 October 2025, would be paid.
SASSA-CAPITEC GRANT GLITCH
So far, South African Social Security Agency Old Age, Disability and War Veteran grants were affected. Made worse is the fact these SASSA grants increased in October 2025 and recipients would have been relying heavily on the additional money.

POVERTY-STRICKEN OLDER PERSONS
Unfortunately, the SASSA-Capitec grant glitch could not come at a worse time for the embattled agency. Old-Age Grant beneficiaries marched to Parliament last month demanding better treatment from government.
Likewise, the SASSA-Postbank Master Service Agreement (MSA) that ends in December 2025 looks like it will negatively affect as many as three-million Older Persons. Following an extension of the MSA, Postbank says pensioners will be hardest hit by withdrawal funds when Postbank does inevitably shut their accounts at yearend.
WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN SASSA-CAPITEC?
Nevertheless, it’s hardly been plain sailing for SASSA-Capitec clients this month. “Non-payment was a result of a technical challenge that occurred between PayInc (the payments clearing house formerly known as BankservAfrica) and Capitec,” confirmed SASSA to The Citizen.
“SASSA-Capitec and PayInc sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. All parties are committed to ensuring necessary mitigation is put in place to prevent recurrence of such incidents,” concluded SASSA. For reference, the last remaining pay dates for ‘core’ SASSA grants in 2025 are as follows:
- OCTOBER: SASSA Childcare – Monday 6 October 2025 (this week)
- NOVEMBER: SASSA Old-Age – Tuesday 4 November 2025 & SASSA Childcare – Friday 6 November 2025
- DECEMBER – SASSA Old-Age – Tuesday 2 December 2025 & SASSA Childcare – Thursday 4 December 2025
