Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Gauteng

Gauteng residents can expect a chilly Thursday, with temperatures dropping compared to earlier in the week. Johannesburg will reach a high of just 19°C, with Pretoria slightly warmer at 21°C. Springs is forecast to match Johannesburg at 19°C.

Forecaster Joel Guy explained, “Gauteng stays partly cloudy, with cooler temperatures compared to what we saw yesterday.”

Severe thunderstorms expected

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms that could affect large parts of Gauteng. These storms may bring disruptive heavy rains later in the day.

Guy cautioned, “We still have a warning for severe thunderstorms for parts of Mpumalanga extending into Gauteng and the North West.”

The unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to fuel thundershowers, especially in the western parts of the province.

Provincial weather

While Gauteng cools, other provinces face similar chilly conditions. Limpopo will see temperatures in the upper teens and low 20s, while Mpumalanga will remain cloudy and rainy, with highs around 12°C in some towns.

These conditions reinforce the unsettled pattern across the country.

Guy added, “It is going to be cooler compared to what we’ve been seeing lately across the Limpopo province.”
